There are triangles there and that's not strange at all. When you deal with highly complex curved surfaces it is impossible to avoid triangles or poles.
Both are equally "bad" because they cause the same issue when you step up subdivision.

It's not about using triangles or not, it is knowing where to place them and why.
As soon as you subdivide a surface that has triangles and quads the whole surface will be 'fully quaded' but everywhere you had a triangle you now have a pole.
If you are of the belief avoiding triangles at all cost is a useful practice study this picture til it dawns on you why this is a flawed paradigm.
