3D is a very realistic job that plenty of people make a stable middle class income out of.

The catch is that the industry is extremely competitive, and thus only the top 2~5% of artists actually make any money. If you want it to be a realistic job, you have to work your ass off to improve your skills and make a portfolio that prospects cannot say no to.

The simple fact is if you want to make it you have to gitgud.
