you're giving a lecture to a bunch of fucking students. The notion that you can't remember a time where dropping 5 grand on a rendering pipeline not including licensing costs is fucking absurd to me. They're not impressed because they would never spend that, they're impressed because right now they can't. It's why people learn on pirated software, and render on subpar hardware, full stop. Everyone in that room, if they suddenly had a client list who would hit them up on a monthly basis, would immediately be dropping the cash to build a new PC from scratch.
